FC Barcelona are working hard to retain the exciting young talent coming through the club’s youth ranks, while also bringing in new prospects with potential to strengthen the squad, particularly the reserve team.
The recent departure of Pedro ‘Dro’ Fernandez to PSG and other talents such as Quim Junyent and Guille Fernandez being linked with exits have sparked the Blaugrana to act and secure the future of the next generation of La Masia gems.
In this context, Barcelona recently tied down teenage prodigy Ebrima Tunkara to a new contract.
Now, according to SPORT, one of the most promising players in the academy, David Moreno, recently visited the offices at the Ciutat Esportiva Joan Gamper, accompanied by his parents and representatives, to reinforce his continuity with the club.
It should be noted that, at just 14 years of age, Moreno is not yet eligible to sign a professional contract, something that will not be possible until he turns 16.
Nevertheless, the parties have reached a training agreement typical of the academy system, through which the club ensures Moreno’s continuity, covers aspects such as accommodation at La Masia, and helps the family with expenses related to his sporting development.
David Moreno is regarded as one of the standout prospects at La Masia, if not the one with the greatest projection. A left-footed midfielder, he stands out for his creativity, his strong reading of the game, his dribbling ability and, above all, his eye for goal.
In recent times, he has posted striker-like numbers despite being a pure midfielder. He usually plays as a right-sided interior, although he is also capable of operating on the left.
On occasion, he has been used in a more advanced role, but for now, during his two years playing 11-a-side football, Barcelona have deployed him primarily as a central midfielder.
Given that he is only 14, Moreno does not yet possess a standout physical profile. Even so, he already makes a difference through his ability to beat opponents with the ball, provide the final pass and, especially, finish chances.
Last season, at the U13 level, he enjoyed an outstanding campaign. This season, he has found it harder to maintain consistency due to growth-related issues, mainly muscular discomfort, which is common at his age.
Despite this, he is a player with unique qualities, and Barcelona are set to enjoy his talent for many years to come.
