According to Catalunya Radio (h/t Mundo Deportivo), FC Barcelona have reached a multi-million euro agreement with investors from the United Arab Emirates to license the club’s image and brand in a luxury residential development in Dubai.

The agreement is unprecedented in the club’s history and has already generated an upfront payment.

The project involves the construction of a high-end residential complex in Dubai, using the Barcelona brand in a similar way to Chelsea, which has a comparable development in the emirate.

The plan consists of creating a mini-city in Dubai with buildings, luxury apartments and communal areas, where the Barcelona crest will be highly visible.

In return, the club will receive a significant financial amount for a fixed number of years. Given their economic situation in recent years, adding another revenue stream will be a major boost and might take them closer to the 1:1 Fair Play Rule.

However, it must be noted that the agreement has not yet been made official and must still be approved by the club’s members at an Assembly.

It is the same case with other pending deals, such as the renewal of the Spotify sponsorship contract and the new sponsor set to replace UNICEF on the back of the shirt from July onwards.

The club’s intention had been to hold an Extraordinary Assembly before the presidential elections, but at last Thursday’s board meeting, the decision was taken to postpone it indefinitely.
