In what promised to be a redemption season for Gavi, it has turned out to be a nightmare.

An arthroscopic surgery has confirmed that the youngster’s knee injury is worse than thought and therefore, Barcelona have confirmed he will be out for a period of around four to five months.

This effectively rules out Gavi from the first half of the season as well as a major part of the second half.

Gavi’s message to Barcelona fans

In light of the recent setback, Gavi sent a message to his fans, who were hoping to see him in action this season.

“Those who know me know that I will return whenever necessary to defend Barça and my loved ones until the end,” he said.

“A true champion is not made in moments of success, but in those when he rises after falling,” he added.

Recent reports suggest that Gavi did not take the news of his injury well and was deeply affected, on an emotional and psychological level.

The Spanish international, after all, has been struggling with injuries in the recent past, which has stifled his progress as a player.

Nevertheless, Gavi remains grateful to his fans for all the support and is keen on getting back to full fitness as soon as possible.

“Thank you all for the messages of encouragement and love! Força Barça,” he concluded in his message.

Before his injury, Gavi featured in only two league games, conjuring up a total of 66 minutes of action.

The Spaniard joins Fermin Lopez, Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Alejandro Balde and Lamine Yamal in the Barcelona infirmary, although both Yamal and Balde are likely to be given a green light heading into the Real Sociedad match this weekend.
