The 16-year-old winger has been an integral player for Luis de la Fuente, who has started him in all the matches up to now, with the exception of the group match against Albania when Spain had already advanced to the knock-out rounds of the competition.

Last night, Yamal added another assist to take his tally to three in the competition, and as Mundo Deportivo has reported, he is now the sole leader in this category, while also having the opportunity to take his number even higher in the upcoming match against France.

His three assists have led to goals by Dani Carvajal, Fabian Ruiz, and Dani Olmo. The first of these assists was provided in the match against Croatia when Carvajal scored the goal.

The second came in the match against Georgia in the Round of 16, with Fabian Ruiz the scorer, while Yamal provided the third assist last night, which was scored by Dani Olmo, before being substituted for Ferran Torres in the 63rd minute.

There are four players in particular who will be looking to equal or better Yamal’s record in the remaining two quarter-finals which are scheduled for tonight. Xavi Simons and Ake, both from the Dutch national team, have two assists to their name and thus are not too far away from the Barcelona youngster.

The Swiss duo of Freuler and Aesbicher also have two assists to their names and they can also equalize or better Yamal’s number as they face England tonight. Furthermore, two of Yamal’s teammates, Fabian Ruiz and Dani Olmo also have two assists to their names, and can overtake the youngster farther into the tournament.
