Barcelona star to return to starting XI vs Villarreal | OneFootball

A member of the midfield ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is expected to be afforded a prominent role in the club’s next outing.

That’s according to Diario Sport, who point towards Gavi as the player in question.

Spanish international Gavi has for his part found starts somewhat difficult to come by in Catalunya’s capital of late.

This comes with boss Hansi Flick, across a crucial stretch of the campaign, having continued to rely on first-choice trio Pedri, Frenkie de Jong and Dani Olmo to occupy his engine room setup.

With the league title now wrapped up, though, Gavi can look forwrd to a return to starting duties in Barcelona’s colours this weekend.

The Blaugrana are primed to return to action on Sunday evening, when they play host to Villarreal in the club’s penultimate fixture of the campaign.

And as per Sport:

‘The one who seems certain to play as a starter is Gavi, who could occupy the position of Pedri, who accumulates a lot of minutes, although it is not ruled out that he will play as a midfielder replacing De Jong, another who aims to be a substitute against Villarrreal.’
