Barcelona teenager beats Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. in headline stat | OneFootball

Lamine Yamal may have faced a frustrating night against Girona, but the Barcelona winger continues to prove that setbacks do not define him. 

The teenager missed a penalty against Girona recently, yet, instead of shrinking under the spotlight, the Barcelona star was continuously trying to change the game.

At the start of the second half, Yamal came out with clear intent. He repeatedly attacked down the right flank, looking to make up for his earlier mistake. 

While Girona managed to stop him on several occasions, the Barcelona youngster never stopped pushing forward. 

A great achievement

Even on a difficult night, Yamal reached a milestone that no other player across Europe’s five major leagues has managed so far this season. 

As per SPORT, the winger completed his 100th successful dribble in La Liga. He reached the mark after 199 attempts, which means he still beats defenders in more than half of his one-on-one situations.

What makes this achievement more impressive is the comparison with the rest of Europe. 

The next closest player in the top five leagues is Yan Diomande, who has 74 successful dribbles from 138 attempts.

The gap becomes even more striking when looking only at La Liga. Yamal’s dribble count is almost double that of his closest challengers. 

Real Madrid stars Kylian Mbappe and Vinicius Jr. both sit behind him, and neither has reached the 65-dribble mark. 

A complete player

Beyond his dribbling numbers, Yamal’s overall output this season has been outstanding. 

He has scored 15 goals in all competitions and provided 13 assists, meaning he has directly contributed to 28 goals. 

Within the Barcelona squad, only Marcus Rashford, with 23 goal involvements and Fermin Lopez, with 22, come close to matching his impact.

In that regard, Mbappe still leads the overall contribution charts with 43 goal involvements, including 38 goals and five assists. 

Even so, Yamal’s numbers at such a young age show how important he already is to Barcelona’s attack.
