Barcelona to receive Harry Kane transfer lifeline from Bayern Munich | OneFootball

Despite their prolific goalscoring start to the 2026-27 season, Barcelona are still keen to sign a top-level striker in the next 12 months. Their top target remains Julian Alvarez, but given that Atletico Madrid are likely to keep the same stance they had in the summer, it’s natural that alternatives are also being considered.

One of them is Harry Kane, whom Barcelona also tried to sign in the summer. The England international is expected to sign a new Bayern Munich in the coming weeks, but as Christian Falk has revealed, it’s likely that his new deal will contain a release clause.

 ”It is true that the Harry Kane camp could imagine a release clause being included in his new contract. It’s very easy for me to say this, as the report came from me! I heard about the idea of making a repeat of this release clause we saw in his last contract. If you remember, he had until January to trigger this, and then it would be possible to leave in the summer. That’s why it was brought to the table once again.

“Bayern Munich are not afraid of this clause, because they’ve dealt with it before and Kane never ended up triggering it. The numbers were always shrouded in secrecy, but I can say that last time it was set at about €80m in the first year when he could activate it – he didn’t. In the second year, it was €65m to trigger it – he didn’t. Now, the contract won’t be so long and, given his age, he won’t trigger the release clause in his first season, so that’s why I think it would be okay to include the clause in his new contract. I think Bayern Munich will not put up much of a fight with regard to this question, as I don’t think Kane will need it, but it’s always good to have such insurance in place.”

Should Barcelona pursue a move for Kane?

There is little doubt that Kane is one of the best strikers in the world, and over the course of his Bayern career, he’s netted 152 goals in only 154 appearances. If he can keep these performance levels up over the coming years, he would be a top addition for Barcelona, but given that he’s already 33, it would surely make sense for the club to look elswhere.
