With only a few months left to be played this season, there is still no clarity on the future of FC Barcelona veteran superstar Robert Lewandowski.

The Poland captain’s contract with the Blaugrana expires in June, and so far, there have been no negotiations over a renewal.

Still undecided

At 37 years old and after more than fifteen years competing at the highest level of European football, Lewandowski is approaching a key moment in his career and has a major decision to make.

In an interview with The Athletic (h/t Mundo Deportivo), Lewandowski insisted he wanted to take his time before making a final decision.

“I don’t know, because I have to feel it. For now, I can’t say anything about what I’ll decide, because I’m not even 50% sure which path I want to take,” he explained.

Lewandowski acknowledged that the experience he has accumulated throughout his career allows him to approach this situation much more calmly than he might have done earlier in his career.

“With my age and experience, I don’t have to decide now. Perhaps in three months’ time will be when I have to do it, but even then, I’m not stressed. I need to start feeling it so that it will be easier when we talk about my future,” he added.

Lewandowski’s continuity at Barcelona will depend both on his personal decision and on the plans the club has for him within the squad.

Meanwhile, there is growing interest in the striker from Major League Soccer in the United States, with Chicago Fire FC paying particular attention to his situation.

Despite the uncertainty about what will happen next, Lewandowski spoke positively about his experience in Barcelona, where he arrived in the summer of 2022 after leaving Bayern Munich.

“Being at Barça these last few years has allowed me to see how much dedication and hard work goes into moving the club forward. There is great ambition and faith in the future,” the Polish international said.

Support for Joan Laporta

Lewandowski also emphasised the importance of institutional stability at the club and publicly expressed his support for Joan Laporta ahead of the club’s upcoming presidential elections.

“For a club like Barcelona, stability and confidence in the long-term project are fundamental. I believe in continuity and in the people who truly understand the values and identity of this club,” he stated.

In the same interview, the striker reflected on the factors that have allowed him to remain highly competitive even at the age of 37. One of the key changes he highlighted was a radical adjustment to his lifestyle during his twenties.

Lewandowski explained that he eliminated gluten and lactose from his diet after discovering that certain foods negatively affected his physical performance.

“I thought I could eat whatever I wanted because I was thin, but when I trained I had no strength. I started to change, and in just a few weeks the difference was enormous,” he remarked.
