Barcelona are expected to strengthen their defensive line in the upcoming summer transfer window, and the club has already begun studying several possible options.

One of the names now appearing on the radar of the Catalan giants is young centre-back Luka Vuskovic.

According to a recent report from SPORT, Barcelona’s interest in the talented defender is real, but completing a transfer could be far from simple.

The club’s recruitment team is believed to be particularly interested in adding a left-footed centre-back to the squad to improve balance in defence.

Several well-known names have been mentioned in recent months, including Micky van de Ven and Alessandro Bastoni

However, those options come with complications, whether due to price, availability, or their clubs’ unwillingness to sell.

That situation has opened the door for Vuskovic to emerge as an interesting alternative.

Although he is not left-footed, the Croatian defender is widely regarded as one of the most promising young centre-backs.

High transfer fee

The 19-year-old is contracted to Tottenham Hotspur, but he is currently gaining valuable experience on loan at Hamburger SV.

However, there is another factor that could potentially work in Barcelona’s favour. The player is represented by Pini Zahavi, who shares a strong relationship with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

Notably, Zahavi also represents figures closely connected to the club, including Robert Lewandowski and Barcelona manager Hansi Flick.

Despite those connections, however, signing the young defender would still be a complex task.

Reports suggest that any deal could cost at least €40 million, a significant amount for a player who is still early in his career.

A gamble?

To better understand the defender’s qualities, SPORT recently spoke with journalists who closely follow Hamburg’s season in Germany.

These observers offered insight into the strengths of the teenage centre-back.

While discussing his physical traits and mentality, they explained that “he is not particularly fast, but he is very strong and has an incredible mentality for being 19 years old.”

Finally, they also considered whether the player could adapt to Barcelona’s playing style under Flick.

Their view was optimistic, although they acknowledged the difficulty of negotiating with Tottenham.

“It is possible that he fits very well at Barça, but Tottenham will not make it easy for him to leave. It would have to be seen, but he can fit well into Flick’s style,” they said.
