53 games. That was the remarkable run of consecutive matches in which Barcelona found the net - a historic streak, the longest in the club’s history.
It all came to a halt, though, with a disastrous 3-0 defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League.
Under Hansi Flick, Barcelona became a genuine goal-scoring machine. Never before had the Catalans come close to this 53-game record - not even during the era of total dominance with Lionel Messi or under Pep Guardiola. The previous best was a 44-game streak, set back in 1944.
Across Europe’s top five leagues (England, Spain, Italy, Germany and France), only two clubs have yet to play a match this season without celebrating a goal - both in the Bundesliga: Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund.
For Bayern, the last time they drew a blank was at the Club World Cup, a 2-0 loss to PSG in the quarter-finals. They’ve now scored in 18 straight games. Dortmund currently hold the longest active run (22 games): their last match without a goal was also at the Club World Cup, a 0-0 draw with Fluminense.
