Barry Douglas has retired at 36. As Wolves face Leeds, he reflects on a career he hopes is remembered for more than trophies, according to ExpressAndStar.com.

At Wolves in 2017/18 he was a left wing-back known for consistency and set-pieces, with five goals and 14 assists. The side stormed to the Championship title, and he played 39 of 46 games before a pre-season sale that baffled supporters.

At Leeds it was similar, another Championship title before departure as they stepped up. He carries no bitterness, cherishing the parade, friendships and family moments, including his grandfather’s pride.

Released by Livingston as too small, he rebuilt at Queen’s Park while apprenticing in refrigeration and air conditioning, then moved to Dundee United. He went to Lech Poznan, winning the league, before Konyaspor in Türkiye, finishing third, lifting the Turkish Cup and playing in the Europa League.

He settled quickly under Nuno and thrived in a system that suited him. His exit came in pre-season when the club accepted an offer, a business decision rather than personal, and he was not allowed to fight for his place or say goodbye.

Injuries coloured his time at Leeds. He sought minutes with Blackburn, returned to Lech Poznan for another title, then spent last season with St Johnstone. He also earned a Scotland cap, replacing Andy Robertson.

Now he wants family stability and is open to media or coaching, particularly with young players. One season at Molineux was enough to leave a lasting bond.
