Djalma Beltrami, the referee of the Batalha dos Aflitos, will act as refereeing assessor for Grêmio v Palmeiras in the 28th round of the Brasileirão on Sunday at the Arena.
According to Globo.com, Beltrami will monitor the match by video and will not be at the stadium. His brief is to support the technical development of the officiating team as an analyst.
Before kick-off he joins the planning meeting, and during the game evaluates positioning, movement, disciplinary control and other technical aspects, logging incidents.
He has no decision-making power and does not intervene in live calls. After full-time he compiles the match report and provides feedback to the officials.
Beltrami worked as an analyst until 2025 and has recently begun serving as an assessor for the CBF.
This will be his first involvement in 16 years with a Grêmio men’s professional match. The last came in 2010, when he refereed a 1-1 draw with Athletico at Arena da Baixada in the 17th round.
In 2024, he was an analyst for a Mosqueteiras fixture in the Brasileirão Feminino.
He is remembered in Grêmio history for the 2005 clash with Náutico in the final round of Série B’s quadrangular. He awarded two penalties to the Pernambuco side and sent off four Grêmio players.
With seven players left, Grêmio still won 1-0. Galatto saved a penalty and soon after Anderson scored the goal that took the club back to Série A.
