FC Bayern were held to a 2-2 draw by Hamburg in the Bundesliga on Saturday. Fábio Vieira put the home side in front from the penalty spot after the half-hour, with Harry Kane equalising before half-time. Luis Díaz handed Bayern the lead straight after the restart, but Luka Vušković would again level the scores. There were more chances at both ends, with Bayern pressing for a winner in the closing stages, but the points were shared.
Munich started with Manuel Neuer in goal and Josip Stanišić, Dayot Upamecano, Minjae Kim and Alphonso Davies in defence. Aleksandar Pavlović and Joshua Kimmich anchored a midfield featuring Michael Olise, Lennart Karl and Serge Gnabry, with Kane up front. Luis Díaz replaced Karl at half-time, with Jonathan Tah and Jamal Musiala taking over from Kim and Gnabry in the second half.
It was lively first half with Bayern enjoying most of the ball. Kim blocked against Vieira before Vušković headed just wide. Gnabry fired over before Olise and Karl saw efforts saved. Neuer made a strong reflex stop against Nicolás Capaldo, with Kimmich unleashing a shot that crashed off the bar.
HSV were awarded a penalty for Kimmich’s challenge on Nicolai Remberg, with Vieira dispatching. Bayern levelled when Kimmich missed a Gnabry square, but Kane was on hand to smash the ball into the roof of the net on the spin. Munich soon had the ball in the net for a second time, Kane inviting Gnabry to turn home, but the flag was up for offside. Neuer made another fine save against Ransford Königsdörffer, who was offside in any case.
Bayern took the lead straight after the restart, Olise’s fine pass finding Díaz, who finished clinically. Vieira blasted just wide, but Hamburg levelled again when Vušković headed in from William Mikelbrencis’ cross. Capaldo put a rebound wide with his knee, while Albert Sambi Lokonga beat Díaz to an Olise cross at the other end.
An Olise corner led to a mix-up in the box, the ball hitting the bar after bouncing off a number of players. Bayern had Davies to thank for keeping the scores level when he cleared Vieira’s shot off the line after Hamburg countered. Olise miscued and Musiala saw his deflected effort saved. A Kimmich shot was blocked as another goal refused to come, with HSV and Bayern sharing the spoils.
The result means Bayern have 51 points from 20 matches. Vincent Kompany’s team will be back in action next Sunday when they entertain Hoffenheim in the Bundesliga.
