Portugal under-19 international David Santos Daiber has signed his first professional contract with German giants Bayern Munich, committing himself to the club until the summer of 2030.
The midfielder, 19, joined Bayern at the age of nine and has been gradually introduced to the first-team set-up by manager Vincent Kompany this term. Santos Daiber has made two substitute appearances in the Bundesliga in recent weeks, but has been training with the senior players since last summer.
“We’re always happy when a player like David, who came to the club as a very young talent, turns professional at Bayern,” said sporting director Christop Freund. “He’s got game intelligence, is assured on the ball and is an extremely reliable midfielder, who’s taken a big step in his development in recent months thanks to regular training with the first team. We have a lot of faith in him.”
Born in Luxembourg, Santos Daiber has turned out for Portugal at u17, u18 and u19 level, during which time he was a regular for his country at the Under-17 European Championship in 2024. Despite not having spent any of his formative years in Portugal, the midfielder has been clear in his commitment to the Seleção rather than his adoptive nation.
Bayern are enjoying a tremendous season so far, topping the Bundesliga with just one defeat and reaching the German Cup semi-finals, where they are due to play Bayer Leverkusen. In the Champions League, a stunning 10-2 aggregate victory over Atalanta has reinforced their status as one of the frontrunners, ahead of a quarter-final meeting with Real Madrid.
