Dani Olmo has been a key player for FC Barcelona and the Spanish national team, but he continues to find it hard to become a regular starter for the Blaugrana.

Fermin Lopez’s brilliant form at the start of the season has meant that the 2026 FIFA World Cup winner has had to accept a reduced role so far in the team.

It has given way to speculations over his future, with Bayern Munich understood to be exploring a potential move for the playmaker in January.

Bayern’s plan for Olmo

According to Sky Germany (h/t SPORT), the Bundesliga champions did not complete all of the business they had planned during the summer transfer window and still have several investments in mind.

As such, they see Olmo as a good fit. However, there have been no contacts between any of the parties so far.

While there is interest, Bayern Munich have taken a firm position on their pursuitof Olmo: they will not make a move if the Spaniard gives no indication that he would be open to the switch.

Olmo was one of Barcelona’s major signings in the summer of 2024. The Catalan club committed more than €60 million, including add-ons, despite the difficult situation surrounding the salary cap.

Since joining the club, he has been an important player, but has not been a regular starter. The attacking positions are now particularly crowded, while in midfield he occupies a similar role to Fermin, who has been playing more regularly.

Flick has used Olmo in deeper positions than he normally occupies, but competition is intense in those areas as well.

The former RB Leipzig star would be a regular starter at many European clubs, but he does not currently have that status at Barça. That situation is the opening Bayern see in what they consider could be a potentially significant operation.

Olmo knows the Bundesliga well, having previously succeeded there with Leipzig. His camp continues to insist that there is currently nothing happening, and that is accurate.

There has not been even a conversation so far, although everyone is aware that the Spanish international continues to attract interest in the transfer market.

Bayern, on their part, are waiting for a signal from the player and his camp, but that has not yet arrived.

Barcelona, meanwhile, are not concerned. Olmo was a strategic signing and the Catalans are more than satisfied with his performances and with the qualities he brings to the squad.
