Bayern thrash Stuttgart in dominant opening win | OneFootball

Stuttgart briefly threatened to challenge Bayern in the second half, but Michael Olise quickly put a stop to that. The Frenchman calmly tucked past Fabian Bredlow just minutes after Stuttgart's equalizer to restore Bayern's lead.

Moments later, Josha Vagnoman scored an own goal, and Bayern pulled away, scoring four unanswered goals in total to start the season with a big 5-1 win at the Allianz Arena.

Stuttgart had the first big chance in the fifth minute when Joshua Kimmich and Kim min-jae failed to communicate, sending Dženan Pejčinović through on goal. However, Pejčinović, making his Bundesliga debut for Stuttgart, tried to pass, but Dayot Upamecano dealt with it, and the ball went out for a corner.

Stuttgart continued to create most of the early chances, and nearly opened the scoring in the 12th minute. A deflected header fell to Tiago Tomás in the box, and the Portuguese forward quickly fired but was denied by the crossbar.

Michael Olise nearly made them pay for their misses early on. In the 17th minute, the Frenchman curled a free kick off the post, narrowly missing the top corner.

However, Bayern wouldn’t have to wait long for their opener. Four minutes later, Joshua Kimmich curled a corner towards the front post, and Upamecano flicked home, making it 1-0 to the Bavarians.

Vincent Kompany’s side could have made it 2-0 moments later when a brilliant pass from Harry Kane set Luis Díaz up with a two-on-one. Díaz shot straight at Stuttgart keeper Fabian Bredlow.

Bayern had a penalty shout in the 33rd minute when Olise went down hard at the edge of the box after a Maximilian Mittelstädt challenge. The ref waved play on, and Stuttgart earned a free kick shortly after.

Bredlow made a fantastic save on Nathaniel Brown’s shot in the 38th minute, pushing the ball over the crossbar. Brown, a natural left-back playing in attacking midfield, had made a darting run forward and was played through by a great pass from Alphonso Davies.

Bredlow again came to the rescue on the ensuing corner, rising to swat the ball clear. Right before the half, he made yet another save, denying Konrad Laimer from close range.

The 31-year-old goalkeeper made his fourth and final save of the half right before the final whistle, calmly collecting an Olise backheel to keep it at 1-0 heading into the break.

Bayern started the second half where they left off, controlling possession and keeping Bredlow alert. Then, in the 52nd minute, Stuttgart struck. Jeff Chabot got onto the end of a cross, and Manuel Neuer made a save, but Vagnoman latched onto the rebound and hit a powerful shot past Neuer to make it 1-1.

Stuttgart's joy wouldn't last very long. Kimmich collected a poor clearance, carried the ball, and then found Olise with a nice pass. With that much time and space, the Frenchman couldn't miss, and Bayern took the lead once again.

Moments later, disaster struck for Stuttgart once again. Davies put in a seemingly tame cross, but Vagnoman slipped on the rain-drenched pitch, sending the ball into his own net and giving Bayern a 3-1 lead just six minutes after he had pulled level.

Bayern weren't going to stop there. Ismael Saibari, subbed on just minutes earlier for Brown, won the ball back. Kane then found Olise with a great pass, and Olise fooled a defender and slotted past Bredlow for a fourth. However, it was ruled he was narrowly offside, and the goal did not count.

Stuttgart nearly pulled one back in the 72nd minute, but substitute Ermedin Demirović fired narrowly over the bar from close range.

Bayern continued to pile on pressure, with Pavlović forcing Bredlow into a diving save to earn a corner. Then, in the 82nd minute, Bayern finally got their fourth, with Saibari latching on to an Olise long-ball, fooling Finn Jeltsch with a fake shot, and sliding the ball across for Pavlović to tap in, making it 4-1.

Díaz nearly added a fifth, with Bredlow making a questionable decision to come out and challenge for the ball. However, the Colombian winger couldn't get his shot on target, sending the ball out for a goal kick.

Díaz did eventually get his goal, with Tom Bischof winning the ball near midfield and starting a swift counter. Saibari found Díaz with a pass and the winger couldn't miss this time, tucking the ball past Bredlow to make it 5-1.

Bayern return to action midweek, facing off against VfL Osnabrück in the DFB Pokal on Wednesday. Stuttgart will hope to bounce back next Friday against 1. FC Köln.
