Bayern Munich youngster Chris Richards is reportedly set to spend the remainder of the 2020-21 season on loan at TSG Hoffenheim.
The USMNT defender has been used sparingly by Hansi Flick this season, barring a few appearances at the start of the campaign.
According to Sky reporter Max Bielefeld, Richards did not participate in training today and is expected to depart for Hoffenheim before the winter transfer window shuts tomorrow.
Bielefeld claims Richards has already said goodbye to some of his teammates, but the “last details [are] still to be negotiated between the clubs.”
Sport1’s Florian Plettenberg has confirmed Bielefeld’s report and added that there no “option-to-buy” clause in the loan agreement.
Richards is not the first Bayern player who has made his way to Hoffenheim on loan. Both David Alaba and Serge Gnabry also spent time at the club before establishing themselves in Munich.
This is a great move for the 20-year-old and he will be reunited with his former U23 coach Sebastian Hoeness at Hoffenheim. Richards is extremely flexible and can play in both full-back positions, and will be able to find ample opportunities in Hoeness’ setup.
Bayern beat Hoffenheim 4-1 last evening, exacting revenge for the same scoreline inflicted on them at the start of the season.
