Bayern Munich full-back Alphonso Davies has confirmed he and fellow Canadian international Jordyn Hiutema have parted ways after almost five years together.
Rumours had been circling after the pair deleted photos and videos of them together from their respective social media accounts, while their popular YouTube channel was also been taken down.
Davies put an end to the speculation with a short post on his Twitter, while also rubbishing allegations made about Huitema.
“Yes Jordyn and I have parted ways. The rumours about her are not true,” the 21-year-old wrote. “She is a good person [and] I have a lot of respect for her. I wish her the best and ask everyone to respect our privacy.”
Davies and Huitema established themselves as one of football’s leading power couples during their relationship. The two started dating in 2017 when they were both part of the Vancouver Whitecaps Academy as teenagers, and after they got together, the two went from strength to strength in their relationship and their careers.
Both players impressed for their respective teams while at the Whitecaps Academy, and soon enough, the two had turned a lot of heads with their talent.
Davies became the youngest player to represent Canada at senior level when he was just 16 years old. The following year, in 2018, he completed a move to Bayern Munich, commanding a then record transfer fee for the MLS.
The young starlet, who was already on the radar of a lot of clubs, has rapidly established himself as one of the best full-backs in the world, and he’s still only 21. He has four Bundesliga titles to his name, as well as a Champions League title and Club World Cup, to name just a few of his honours.
Huitema, also 21, has enjoyed a similarly impressive career so far. She opted to turn professional after foregoing college and instead signing for Paris Saint-Germain in 2019.
The forward played a huge role in the French side’s first ever Division 1 title last year, before making history at the Tokyo Olympics just months later.
Huitema was a part of the iconic Canadian side that won the gold medal, marking the country’s best ever finish at a major global tournament.
The two took the football stage by storm through their independent performances on the pitch, but they also won the hearts of the world as a couple.
Their YouTube channel, formerly named ‘Jordyn and Alphonso’, boasted more than 800,000 followers as the two regularly posted vlogs and adorable videos together.
