Dayot Upamecano apparently had serious alternatives before his contract extension with FC Bayern was considered certain. As transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports, there was concrete interest from two other clubs before the final agreement with Munich was reached
According to the report, Paris Saint-Germain and an unnamed English top club were intensively involved in signing the French centre-back. According to Romano, both clubs showed concrete interest and closely followed the situation surrounding the expiring contract. PSG in particular are said to have closely monitored the international’s development
Real Madrid also looked into the possibility of a transfer, but no concrete steps were taken by the Whites. According to Romano, there were considerations, but ultimately no concrete offer from the Spanish giants for Upamecano
Despite the interested parties, the 26-year-old ultimately made a conscious decision to remain in Munich. After a long and at times tough negotiation poker, Upamecano gave FC Bayern his commitment and will extend his contract until 2030. The decisive factor was not only the overall sporting package, but also the prospect of continuing to play a central role in the record champions‘ defensive center. As has since become known, the new contract also contains an exit clause

The fact that the central defender opted for FC Bayern despite concrete inquiries is seen as a strong signal at Säbener Straße
Upamecano stays, top international clubs are left behind – and FC Bayern can plan for the long term in the center of defence.
