Belgium face Kazakhstan in FIFA World Cup 2026 European qualifier on Sunday evening after their big win over Liechtenstein on Thursday.
There are no fresh injury concerns for Rudi Garcia’s side, although we might see some changes in the starting lineup against Kazakhstan in case the head coach decides to experiment with new faces or give minutes to his fringe players.
One change that we might see is Leandro Trossard starting up front in place of Louis Openda as in the last game, the striker was unable to find the net and was later substituted in the 60th minute with Trossard.
Kazakhstan comes to Belgium and will certainly look to find a way to upset the European giants. There are no fresh injury concerns or any doubts regarding any players in the squad after their match against Wales.
Kazakhstan have a defensive powerhouse in Serhiy Malyi, the towering 6’5″ centre-back who’s made the backline his fortress at clubs in his home country and Ukraine. Known for his aerial prowess and big-game experience, Malyi switched national allegiance from Ukraine to Kazakhstan in 2013 and now boasts over 60 caps for his adopted country. Currently playing for FC Ordabasy, he’s a fixture in European qualifiers, regularly clocking 90 minutes and leading the team in clearances and tackles.
His leadership on the pitch is no accident; Malyi’s been the anchor behind Kazakhstan’s most resilient defensive efforts and even scored in a UEFA Nations League win over Moldova. With his height, sharp reading of the game, and relentless presence, Belgium’s prolific strikers have more than just a physical barrier to overcome; they face a defender whose international mileage and fearless performances make him the ultimate test for any attacking line.
Belgium currently sits in 3rd position in the table with 7 points in three matches and will look to go top of the table with a win against Kazakhstan. Rudi Garcia’s men have scored 10 goals in their last two matches which showcases their goalscoring abilities and will continue to keep the momentum going.
Kazakhstan have lost 3 matches on the run and will be eager to find a positive outcome soon. They are currently 4th in the table with just 3 points in 4 matches, and more or less they will just play for pride, and if they can cause an upset by beating Belgium, then that might give them something to hope for in the remaining qualifiers.
