Benfica said in a statement that 21-year-old centre-back Joshua Wynder has joined New England Revolution on loan until the end of the season. The move returns the American to his home country three campaigns after arriving at the club.
To complete the deal, the Boston side negotiated with Nashville, who held priority rights under MLS rules. New England paid about $50,000, approximately €43,000, to obtain those rights.
Wynder signed for Benfica in June 2023 from Louisville City, the club from his hometown in Kentucky. He featured mainly for Benfica B, playing 37 II Liga matches and scoring six goals, and stands at 1.88 metres.
He also appeared for the first team, debuting in April 2025 in the Taça de Portugal semi-final against Tirsense. Wynder was part of the Benfica squad at the Club World Cup staged in the United States.
The defender now has the chance to continue his development in a league he knows well. A youth international for the United States, he has more than 20 caps across age groups.
