Joshua Wynder is close to leaving Benfica for MLS, with New England Revolution expected to take the 21-year-old centre-back on loan.

According to The Athletic, the MLS side are in advanced talks with Benfica over the move, and both parties are working to complete it before the league’s window closes on Wednesday. The loan would not include an option to buy.

Benfica are understood to view the United States youth international’s spell at the club as nearing its end. He joined from Louisville City in 2023 as a development signing but has not secured a consistent role.

Since arriving in Portugal, he has made only one senior appearance. His debut came in 2024/25 against Tirsense in the Taça de Portugal.

Last season proved especially testing, as a serious left foot injury stalled his progress and further limited opportunities.

A move back to MLS could offer Wynder a platform to relaunch his career and earn regular minutes, while for Benfica it points towards an eventual parting of ways.
