Benjamin Nygren reveals why he avoids reading ‘stupid comments’ about Celtic performances | OneFootball

Benjamin Nygren has opened up on dealing with criticism at Celtic and revealed why he avoids reading what is written about him when results turn against the club.

The Sweden international has experienced the highs and lows of life at Parkhead, earning plenty of praise for his goalscoring contributions while also facing scrutiny over some of his performances.

That criticism has intensified during a difficult spell for Martin O’Neill’s side, with Celtic heading into the international break on the back of three consecutive defeats.

Two losses to Rangers came either side of a 3-1 Europa League defeat against Ferencvaros, raising questions over Celtic’s performances and recent form.

Nygren has not been immune from scrutiny. The 25-year-old was substituted during the 1-0 derby defeat at Celtic Park after also struggling to make an impact in the previous loss at Ibrox.

However, the midfielder insists he deliberately avoids paying too much attention to outside noise during difficult periods.

Speaking to Swedish outlet Fotbollskanalen, Nygren said: “As you know, those of you who work in the media, it tends to be black or white.

“As a player, there’s no point in going in and reading things that people write in moments like these. You don’t gain anything by going in and reading stupid comments.

“There are so many people who care about how things are going and I see that as something very cool and nice.

“I just try to do my best all the time and as a team you can’t always win every game, even though we aim to do so.”
