Karim Benzema sparked Al-Hilal’s first crisis of the season after reacting angrily to being substituted during the Roshn League opener against Al-Faisaly, Goal.com reports.
Al-Hilal faced newly promoted Al-Faisaly at Kingdom Arena in Riyadh on Friday evening in round one.
Benzema opened Al-Hilal’s scoring for the new campaign, converting a penalty.
In the 70th minute, Simone Inzaghi replaced the French striker with Ivorian forward Mohamed Kader Meite.
Video clips showed Benzema arguing with one of the Italian coach’s assistants after the change.
He later made peace, returning after the final whistle to shake Inzaghi’s hand and embrace him as Al-Hilal secured their first win of the season.
Since joining Al-Hilal during the last winter transfer window, Benzema has featured in 14 matches across competitions, scoring 10 goals and providing 5 assists.
