Manchester City skipper Bernardo Silva has announced that he will be leaving the club when his contract expires at the end of the season.

While presenting Yaya Toure with a mural of his 2011 FA Cup final winning goal at the City Football Academy in 2018, Manchester City chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak hailed the former midfielder as the face that ‘represented the best’ of the preceding decade.

The same goes for Silva, for he has undoubtedly been the perfect Pep Guardiola player since he moved to England in 2017 after a £43 million move from AS Monaco – preparing to leave Manchester City as the player who has played the most for his Catalan manager over the course of the latter’s career on the touchline.

Silva has won six Premier League titles, a UEFA Champions League title and a plethora of domestic silverware during an illustrious career at the Etihad Stadium, lifting his first trophy as Manchester City captain after beating Arsenal in the Carabao Cup final in March.

City are fighting Arsenal in a title race that keeps taking fresh twists week after week, the latest seeing the Blues closing the gap to Mikel Arteta‘s men with a dominant 3-0 win away at Chelsea 24 hours on from the Gunners slipping up at home against Bournemouth.

Guardiola and co have quickly moved on from their UEFA Champions League disappointment against Real Madrid by winning their first trophy in two seasons and claiming subsequent wins over Liverpool and Chelsea – the former setting up a FA Cup semi-final tie with Southampton.

It is a good debate to have on whether Manchester City can go perfect in their league run-in between now and the end of the season – for if they do, they will almost certainly win a seventh Premier League title under Guardiola.

Silva has formed the bedrock of a Manchester City side in transition and is set to start each of his last seven games in a sky blue jersey as Guardioa’s side look to go on their traditional end-of-term winning run to claim title glory.

City swept Chelsea apart in a ruthless second-half showing at Stamford Bridge last month and Guardiola will be expecting more of the same when Arsenal come to town this weekend. Silva can set the tone for his teammates and guide them to what could be one of the greatest title hijacks witnessed in professional league football.
