Harry Amass could leave Hillsborough in the coming weeks after impressing on loan

A fresh concern for Sheffield Wednesday has emerged regarding the immediate future of Manchester United loanee, Harry Amass.

According to a report from Simon Stone of BBC Sport on Tuesday, there is "huge interest" in the Old Trafford starlet, which could see him depart Hillsborough at the turn of the year, whilst the currently cash-strapped Owls are hoping to do all they can in order for the full-back to remain in the Steel City.

Wednesday's season thus far has been one of extremely few bright spots both on and off the pitch, with takeover news and updates continuing to take up the vast proportion of headlines in S6.

Henrik Pedersen was left with the somewhat impossible task of preserving the club's Championship status for a fourth successive season after taking over from Danny Rohl in August at extremely short notice, with the South Yorkshire side extremely limited when it came to the transfer activity they were able to conduct in the final window of Dejphon Chansiri's extremely controversial and chaotic 10-year spell as chairman.

Indeed, Amass was one of just two loan additions made to the Dane's extremely threadbare squad as a result of several transfer and registration-related embargoes and restrictions alongside a temporary switch for American goalkeeper, Ethan Horvath, from Cardiff City.

Wednesday currently find themselves 27 points from safety with 28 Championship fixtures remaining, having been hit with a further six-point deduction on December 1st after being sanctioned with an automatic 12-point deficit on October 24th for entering administration, with Begbies Traynor hoping to strike an agreement with their preferred bidder in the coming days.

However, the future of Amass has now become a major talking point at Hillsborough when it comes to off-pitch matters, with many debating what is in store for the 18-year-old given his current loan club's situation.

It was well-documented at the time of Amass' first loan stint away from Old Trafford that the Red Devils were to pay for every aspect of the agreement as a result of Wednesday's dire financial straits throughout the summer and beyond, although a deal only until the upcoming January window would be agreed between the two clubs.

After making five appearances - three of which were starts - in the Premier League, as well as a further two in United's run to the UEFA Europa League Final under Ruben Amorim last season, a move to a club which still finds themselves in testing circumstances was only viewed as beneficial towards the Londoner's overall development in the infancy of his senior career.

That has certainly proven to be the case, with Pedersen deploying the England youth international in a left-wing-back role, in which he has demonstrated a strong maturity and an ability to get up and down the pitch from both an attacking and defensive standpoint.

So far this season, Amass has featured in 14 league outings for the Owls, scoring his first senior goal with a well-taken finish in their 3-1 defeat at Southampton on November 8th, as well as posting an assist for Charlie McNeil in the dramatic 3-2 home defeat to Preston North End on November 29th.

As previously mentioned, with his loan deal expiring in less than a month's time, plenty of speculation as to what the future holds for the Red Devils star has been generated, although Pedersen has revealed that the Premier League side are "very happy" with his development, and that he is hopeful of retaining Amass for the remainder of the campaign.

Such feats have been relayed within Stone's recent report, although there will be a concern as to whether Amass can be kept hold of by the Owls, with there being "huge interest" in his services as United weigh up several decisions for their young stars ahead of the second half of the campaign.

Losing Harry Amass would be a huge blow for Sheffield Wednesday

Although it would take the biggest of miracles to see Wednesday not playing League One football next season, it would still be a major blow for Pedersen to lose Amass' services in the upcoming window.

As previously mentioned, the 47-year-old has a clear lack of resources at his disposal, regardless of the recent free agent signings of Liam Cooper and Nathan Redmond.

Granted, Max Lowe could still fill the void left by Amass if he was to return to Old Trafford initially. But, beyond the 28-year-old, Pedersen has no natural cover to choose from, with Gui Siqueira still recovering from a serious injury sustained early in the campaign.
