The 18-year-old has been one of Sheffield Wednesday's most consistent performers this season

Henrik Pedersen has stated that Manchester United are "very happy" with loan star Harry Amass' progression at Sheffield Wednesday, and hopes that his spell can be extended past January.

The 18-year-old has made a real impression in his first loan spell away from Old Trafford, starting every Championship game since he made the move to Hillsborough this past Deadline Day.

According to the Sheffield Star, the Red Devils are happy with his development thus far, but with the January transfer window looming, there will be a decision made over where the wideman's short-term future lies.

Amass' loan move is set to run out next month, but given his progression in the short-handed Wednesday side, Pedersen is hopeful that Manchester United will still believe that his side is still the one best-suited to oversee his development.

Speaking following Sheffield Wednesday's 3-2 defeat at Hillsborough against Preston North End, in which Amass registered the first assist of his senior career, Pedersen stated that "he cannot see any reason" why Manchester United would act on the break clause inserted into the loan deal, which could see him recalled by his parent club.

"I know they [Manchester United] are very happy, and, of course, they have to be very happy," the Owls boss told the Sheffield Star.

"He is in a team that has a lot of trust in him and who work very, very seriously with him as part of the team, but also individually.

"He also has a group of fantastic mirrors in our team [in the form] of the senior players, where he can learn a lot.

"He is in a good group where he has big respect around him, and we have big respect for Manchester United, giving us the possibility to sign him, and I am sure they have big respect for how we have worked with him."

Ideally, an 18-year-old in their first loan move away from a club would be allowed to grow with minutes being managed across the spell. However, due to Wednesday's depleted squad, Amass has had to play almost every minute of Championship action since he joined.

Despite the possibility of burnout, the exciting midfielder has gone from strength to strength due to the sheer amount of gametime he's being afforded, and Manchester United may be wary of taking that away from him with a January recall.

"I hope we can continue [to work with him] after January," Pedersen added. "Of course, he fits well in our way of playing, he is developing well, and I cannot see any reason not to do it."

Harry Amass has been a shining light for Sheffield Wednesday this season

There haven't been many positives on-field for Sheffield Wednesday this season, but the emergence of Amass has been a rare bright spark in a campaign marred by points deductions and off-field controversy.

The England U19 international was the only outfielder that the Owls were allowed to bring in over the summer, and they've had the joy of seeing him grow in front of them.

Hopefully, Wednesday will be able to bulk out their squad with further senior additions in the upcoming January window, after they were able to pick up Liam Cooper and Nathan Redmond from the free agent market over the last couple of weeks.

But, even if they can, most people at the club wouldn't want the Manchester United loanee to be dropped as they come in, as he's given a side who are out on their feet a much-needed energy boost.

Amass has emerged as one of the first names on Henrik Pedersen's team sheet, and if Ruben Amorim's side are prioritising game-time during his loan spell, it'd be a no-brainer to see him remain at Hillsborough for the remainder of the campaign.
