Birmingham City have been told why a transfer reunion for Brighton and Hove Albion winger, Ibrahim Osman, would be a dream deal throughout what has been a somewhat frustrating summer window and start to the 2026/27 season.

After finishing 10th last season, Chris Davies' side have been tipped, at least by some, to challenge for the expanded Championship play-offs given the ambitions set out by American investors, Knighthead Capital Management.

However, only a handful of additions have been made ahead of the final week of the transfer window, which shuts at 11PM on Tuesday, September 1st.

So far, it has been a slow start to the Championship term for Birmingham as they were involved in the only goalless fixture of the division's opening weekend against Sheffield United at Bramall Lane on August 15th, before salvaging a 2-2 draw in B9 against Bristol City on Saturday.

However, the mood at St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park soured in midweek as a result of a 6-1 humiliation by Premier League side, Brentford, in the second round in the EFL Cup.

With the aforementioned context and the current outlook of Blues' squad in mind, Football League World's Birmingham City fan pundit, Jason Moore, outlined who his 'dream' signing in the coming days would be.

Throughout the summer window, Birmingham have been urged to target players with proven experience in the Championship, but it has become apparent in recent weeks that there is still a need for the club to add further depth in attacking areas.

As such, despite already urging the West Midlands outfit to pursue a deal for Anis Mehmeti of Ipswich Town, who has since been linked with Blues, Moore revealed why a reunion for Brighton and Hove Albion winger, Ibrahim Osman, could trump that particular deal.

"One player I'd absolutely love us to sign is a toss-up between Mehmeti and Osman," he told FLW.

"I'm going to go with Osman on the basis that we get a 'number 10' signed no matter what, and I thought Osman was absolutely quality last season.

"Don't get me wrong, I think a '10' is what we desperately need, but I don't think the club would be stupid enough to not sign one," he explained.

"Get Osman back. He'd be absolutely quality, and to be honest, I think he's a Premier League-made player already. I think he's quality, and he'd be a quality addition to the Championship.

"If we could get him back permanently, which I'd be surprised about, I'd be over the moon," Moore stated.

Osman, 21, cost the Seagulls £16m in 2024 from Danish Superliga side, FC Nordsjaelland, but has since enjoyed loan spells with Feyenoord, AJ Auxerre and, of course, Birmingham.

During his spell in the West Midlands, the winger featured 18 times, posting two goals and as many assists, but still caught the eye of Davies and supporters on occasions.

As such, the Ghanaian has been heavily linked with a return, but has also remained a part of Fabian Hurzuler's plans at the start of Brighton's own season, which includes UEFA Conference League football.

After playing 77 minutes in the first leg of their play-off round against Tromso, Osman featured in the final 12 minutes of the Seagulls' 4-0 rout over Birmingham's bitter rivals, Aston Villa, on Sunday, but Davies hasn't given up hope of a reunion in the final days of the window.

In both of their first two Championship matches of the season, Davies has plugged gaps in Blues' 4-2-3-1 formation by utilising Paik Seung-ho as a 'number 10', whilst opting to start Jay Stansfield as a left-winger.

The 23-year-old hasn't exactly had a settled position since moving from Fulham for a club-record fee, but it has been argued that such a decision severely limits his impact in games, whilst Demarai Gray has provided experience as a substitute.
