Blues' transfer business throughout the summer has continued to gain plenty of headlines as the club looks to make swift strides of progress under Knighthead, with Chris Davies keen to add further bodies to his squad before Monday night's 7PM cut-off point.

The likes of Kyogo Furuhashi, Demarai Gray, Tommy Doyle and Bright Osayi-Samuel have all been viewed as statement additions, with many tipping the West Midlands outfit to be among the sides vying for promotion in the Championship.

Speaking after his side's 2-0 defeat to Leicester City at the King Power Stadium on Friday night, Davies didn't rule out the possibility of further additions in his attacking and defensive departments, and two names who feature in both respectively have come to the fore as reported targets with just hours left before the window slams shut.

Birmingham City plot late transfer window move for Burnley winger Manuel Benson

It has been reported by Matt Scrafton of the Burnley Express that Benson, who has fell down the pecking order at Turf Moor under Scott Parker, is attracting interest from several suitors, with Blues named as one of the clubs who have thrown their hat in the ring for the 28-year-old.

This comes after Gareth Vincent of BBC Wales initially revealed that Birmingham's Championship rivals, Swansea City, had also eyed up a potential move for the four-time Angolan international - interest that has since been backed up by the aforementioned fresh update.

Benson moved to the Clarets in the summer of 2022 under Vincent Kompany for €4m from Royal Antwerp. He immediately became a hit in East Lancashire during the club's 101-point haul as Burnley won the second-tier title, scoring 11 times and posting three assists in 33 league appearances.

Since then, the 28-year-old has suffered two major injury setbacks, and is free to leave the club after failing to be named in Parker's matchday squads for the first three Premier League games and the EFL Cup victory over Derby County.

This isn't the first time Blues have been linked with Benson, having chased his services under Tony Mowbray in January 2024, just months before the club were relegated to League One.

Birmingham City in negotiations with Montpellier centre-back Becir Omeragic

It has also been reported by French journalist, Mohamed Toubache-Ter via X, that the B9 outfit are in negotiations with Becir Omeragic of Ligue 2 side, Montpellier.

The update claims that "negotiations have been intense since this morning" and that the Switzerland international's current employers will not stand in his way over a potential move to St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park.

The 23-year-old made 22 appearances in Ligue 1 last term as Montpellier were relegated. He has also featured in all four of 'La Paillade's second-tier encounters as captain this season, featuring predominantly as a defensive-minded midfielder despite his natural position being at centre-back.

It was recently reported by Birmingham Live that Davies is keen to add another left-back to his squad, although Blues are also somewhat short when it comes to centre-back depth, having just Phil Neumann, Christoph Klarer and Eiran Cashin as senior options after they sanctioned the departure of Krystian Bielik to local rivals, West Bromwich Albion.

Birmingham City are set for a busy end to the summer transfer window

It, of course, remains to be seen whether these deals can be pushed over the line between now and 7PM, and they aren't the only deals concerning the Second City side.

Football League World exclusively revealed that Blues are chasing a loan swoop for Sunderland winger Patrick Roberts, and that their move for Celtic's Yang Hyun-jun could also be completed prior to the deadline, with Sky Sports subsequently reporting that the Japanese winger is Birmingham-bound in preparation for when the £3m deal is given the go-ahead.

It has also been reported by Mike Keegan that Blues are also moving for Will Smallbone, and a loan deal for the Southampton man is the most likely outcome at this stage amid claims that the Republic of Ireland international has been the subject of a £7.5m offer from Wrexham.

It is set to be an exciting end to the window for Birmingham once again after last year's record-breaking exploits, and many supporters will hope Davies now has the depth required to compete with the strongest sides in the division for the remainder of the campaign.
