Jay Stansfield has responded to speculation linking him with a move from Birmingham City to Coventry City

Jay Stansfield has distanced himself from speculation regarding a move from Birmingham City to Coventry City.

The forward has been linked with a move to the newly-promoted Coventry City, as they prepare for life in the Premier League.

The 23-year-old has been a key figure for the Blues since making a record-breaking move to St. Andrew’s in the summer of 2024 from Fulham.

Stansfield was signed in a deal worth £15 million, which remains the highest ever fee paid to sign a player by a League One club.

The striker has scored 29 goals from 81 league appearances for Chris Davies’ side, including 10 from 44 games in the Championship last year.

But now he is facing speculation over his future, with the Sky Blues circling over a possible move ahead of the 1 September deadline.

Stansfield has claimed that his main focus is on getting ready for the new Championship season with Birmingham, and that he loves living in the city, and has done since he first moved there in 2023 on an initial loan spell from Fulham.

He has distanced himself from any potential exit from St. Andrew’s in the final weeks of the transfer window, easing fears that he will make the switch to Coventry.

"Walking in the city, walking to a game, being at the stadium is really special still, and one of my main things coming to this club was because I fell in love with it when I was on loan, and that will always be here,” said Stansfield, via Birmingham Live.

“My family has settled here now, I'm really happy here.

"To do this and help the club in different ways is also one of my main things as well, being able to help other people not on the pitch but also off the pitch as well.

"I don't really look at it [speculation], to be honest, I made my feelings clear of Birmingham and how I feel about Birmingham, and I don't really listen to that.

"Nothing's been done about anything, so you see a lot of rumours going around here and there, but I'm a Birmingham City player and that's my main focus for the season and - like I said – I've made my feelings clear of how I feel about the club.

"My main focus was first getting back fit and healthy, and now is to kick on this season with Birmingham."

No player in Davies’ side contributed more goals and assists for Birmingham last season than Stansfield, who scored 10 and assisted six.

The forward was a key part of the team as they finished 10th in their first year back in the Championship.

Birmingham were nine points adrift of the play-offs, and will have their sights set on earning a top eight finish in 2026/27.

Birmingham fans are delighted with Stansfield’s comments, and that the club should now look to prioritise players that can help get the best out of the 23-year-old.

Supporters believe that the former Fulham player has a genuine love for the club, which is evidenced by his decision to leave Craven Cottage to take the step down to League One two years ago.

And some fans are hopeful that these remarks will slow down the speculation over Stansfield’s future.

Birmingham will begin their league campaign on 15 August with a trip to face Sheffield United.
