Birmingham City are preparing a 'significant' bid for Portsmouth attacking-midfielder Adrian Segecic before the summer deadline, with Pompey set to make a huge profit on the Australian star.

According to The News Portsmouth, Birmingham are ready to make an offer for Aussie forward Segecic before the window slams shut, with Pompey prepared for a 'significant' bid to come their way.

Segecic, by all accounts, has been Portsmouth's star player for the past couple of seasons, and has started this campaign brilliantly as well, with two goals in three appearances thus far, as Blues prepare to make him their new marquee capture.

Birmingham have been after another attacking-midfielder for the majority of the window, having previously held an interest in former Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt before his permanent switch to Hull City, whilst Sporting Gijon's Cesar Gelabert has also reportedly entered their radar in recent weeks.

FLW's Birmingham fan pundit, Jason Moore, previously shared that £5 million would be the maximum they believe the club should have paid for Gelhardt, as Blues will need to cough up a fee circa double that figure for Segecic.

Still only 22, Segecic has adapted to the Championship seamlessly following his move from Down Under, and already looks set to make the next step in his career.

Having come through the ranks of Sydney FC, the Croatian spent a season in the Netherlands second tier with FC Dordrecht on loan during the 2023/24 campaign, before returning to the East Coast of Australia the year after and shining.

During his time there, Segecic was teammates with former Shakhtar Donetsk, Bayern Munich, Juventus, LA Galaxy, and Brazilian international winger Douglas Costa, who previously described the attacking-midfielder as 'amazing'.

Capable of playing anywhere across the final third behind the main centre-forward, Segecic has shared his time between the right flank and through the middle under John Mousinho at Fratton Park, and would provide excellent competition for the likes of Carlos Vicente, Patrick Roberts, Jay Stansfield, and Kanya Fujimoto at Birmingham.

The Croatian massively outperformed his expected goals, as per FotMob, scoring 11 from an expected goal return of just 4.78. Whilst this could be down to a lot of luck, he could just be an incredible finisher, as Birmingham hope to be the next beneficiaries of his clinical touch in front of goal.
