Birmingham City have completed the ambitious signing of Japan international Asato Miyagawa.

The Blues announced the signing of the defender from Swedish side Hammarby where the 27-year-old played Champions League football facing Manchester City last season and Manchester United in a qualifying fixture this year.

"I am very happy to be able to join this historic team," Miyagawa said about her arrival to English football.

"I believe that winning the championship is definitely ahead, so first I want to focus on the upcoming matches and keep winning."

Miyagawa joins the large Japanese contingent across WSL and WSL 2 and the Blues will be hoping her arrival can help guarantee promotion next season.

Birmingham City are currently second in the WSL 2 and will be back in action in January when they face Newcastle United away from home.
