Blues fans have sold out their allocation for the upcoming trip to the CBS Arena
Birmingham City have taken a fresh swipe at Coventry City in a fresh revelation confirming that the club's allocation in the CBS Arena has sold-out, and it has caused a stir among both sets of supporters.
Blues' return to the Championship and future ambitions have been well-documented, with manager Chris Davies continuing to be backed strongly by Knighthead Capital Management when it comes to moulding a competitive squad capable of immediately competing towards the top end of the Championship.
Coventry have firmly become one of the division's best-performing clubs in recent times too, with fresh stability in the boardroom under Doug King providing a platform for Frank Lampard to build on a strong first-half season in charge of the Sky Blues, where he guided his side to the play-off semi-finals in May.
With plenty of the division's star names expected to be on show for this West Midlands Derby on September 27th, it was also no surprise that the encounter had been selected by Sky Sports to fill their 12:30PM slot for EFL coverage.
And, whilst normally, even with plenty of games to be played by both sides between now and then, there would be plenty of 'back and forth' social media discourse between Bluenoses and City supporters as to which side would come out on top, much of the talking has focused on the fixture's eye-catching ticket prices, with Birmingham's official account now getting involved.
It was confirmed by Coventry prior to the start of the current campaign that the club - on top of their usual Category A, Category B, Category C and Category D pricing structures for the upcoming 23 league games at the CBS - were to introduce a new price band named 'Category A+'.
With Category A usually referring to local derbies and fixtures against some of the division's bigger sides such as Birmingham, Leicester City, West Bromwich Albion, Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday, it was no surprise that the first game under the umbrella of the A+ category was the clash against Blues.
However, this immediately caused social media outrage from those in the Second City who, like Sky Blues supporters purchasing a one-off match ticket for the encounter, would have to part with £45 for an Adult ticket, £40 for a Senior (65+) or Young Adult (18-21) or £35 for an Under-18.
Some supporters of both sides were of the opinion that such outlandish prices would not be resolved for future matches unless those making the 22.5-mile journey across the M6 didn't fill the full allocation of 2,744 tickets.
However, it has now been confirmed on Blues' official ticketing account via X that each ticket within the away end has now been sold, aiming a dig at their local rivals in the process.
"Unbelievable away support. Again," the post read, followed by the stand-alone message of "𝙋𝙧𝙞𝙘𝙚𝙡𝙚𝙨𝙨." in reference to the aforementioned situation.
Unsurprisingly, this has caused a stir online once again with supporters, with one Blues fan immediately quick when it came to noticing the cryptic point made.
Regardless of the pricing, a Southampton supporter believes that this encounter should always feature a packed-out away end due to the locality of the two sides involved.
Another Bluenose was quick to respond to the joke having evidently parted with a large sum of cash to secure his ticket for the game.
However, some Sky Blues fans, in a tongue-in-cheek manner, believe that their club were 'spot on' with the pricing structure now Blues supporters have sold out the allocation.
Despite this game not being the number one rivalry for Birmingham - who have more fierce encounters with Aston Villa, West Brom and Wolves - or Coventry, who will renew the M69 Derby with Leicester later in the year, this clash still has more edge than most games.
The ticket dispute will certainly have added to that this time around, and it wouldn't be surprising to see either fanbase create a swipe chant in reference to the situation either.
However, after their social media swipe, Birmingham will hope to eventually do the talking on the pitch against Lampard's outfit and emerge victorious in CV6 for the first time since the very first meeting at the CBS in October 2006 under Steve Bruce, courtesy of Nicklas Bendtner's 26th-minute goal.
