FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit believes the club should pursue a move for Cody Drameh.

The defender spent last season on loan at St. Andrew’s, where he featured 28 times in the Championship, including 23 starts (all stats from Fbref).

However, his time with Leeds United has come to an end following the end of his contract, meaning he is now available as a free agent.

This could open the door for a permanent move to the Blues, with Chris Davies now in charge as manager.

Birmingham will be looking to make additions to the squad this summer that help the team fight for automatic promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

FLW’s Birmingham fan pundit Mike Gibbs believes that Drameh would be a very sensible addition to the squad due to his performances while on loan last season.

He believes that the defender would provide strong competition while also giving Davies some versatility to his options due to being able to play on either flank.

“I’m going to go with Cody Drameh, who we had on loan at Blues last year, and he’s just been let go at Leeds,” Gibbs told Football League World.

“He was excellent for us last year, I know there was a deal in place for Blues to take him permanently but given we dropped out of the division that wasn’t a priority at the time without a manager in place.

“But I think, if you could get Cody Drameh back, competition for Ethan Laird but also gives you that balance, he can play at right-back but also at left-back, so very versatile.

“Personally, I think he could probably play at a higher level, but I think he enjoyed his time at Birmingham, and he’d be a fantastic acquisition.”

Davies was appointed as Birmingham manager following the club’s relegation to League One at the end of the season.

The former Tottenham Hotspur assistant will be hoping to guide the Blues to a top two finish at the first attempt.

The Midlands outfit have already added the likes of Emil Hansson, Alfie May, Bailey Peacock-Farrell and Ryan Allsop to their squad this transfer window.

Birmingham have until 30 August to finalise any remaining deals, with their opening league game coming against Reading on 10 August.

Drameh signing would be a real coup for Birmingham

Birmingham have shown ambition this summer to build a team that will be ready for life back in the Championship in 12 months’ time.

Drameh would be another example of this, as he is someone that is more than capable of competing in the Championship.

That is why it could be difficult to convince the 22-year-old to stay with the club permanently.

However, it would be a really strong signing if they could pull it off, and it would be another endorsement for the long-term project being built at St. Andrew’s.
