FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit has commented over whether Blues should make a move for Joel Piroe during the January transfer window.
This article is part of Football League World's 'Terrace Talk' series, which provides personal opinions from our FLW Fan Pundits regarding the latest breaking news, teams, players, managers, potential signings and more…
Despite mounting pressure on Chris Davies, Birmingham City have managed to turn results around in the last couple of weeks.
Davies’ future at St Andrew’s was being questioned due to a recent poor run of form, with the West Midlands outfit failing to win any of their previous five second-tier matches before welcoming table-toppers Coventry City in the opening week of January.
But then Blues produced a sensational performance to topple Frank Lampard’s men 3-2, while they were also victorious in the FA Cup third round against Cambridge United, a tie that could have been seen as a potential banana skin.
Now Birmingham return to league action this weekend, travelling to South Wales to take on Swansea City, with their away form in the Championship needing to improve rapidly.
Davies’ men have suffered three consecutive away defeats to Southampton, Queens Park Rangers and most recently Watford, with a positive result and performance needed to end what has been a miserable time on the road of late.
Birmingham currently sit seven points off the top six with 20 games remaining of the 2025-26 term, and the January transfer window could be a pivotal period to bolster the squad and help them push even further up the standings.
One area Blues could target for incomings is in the forward department, particularly when Jay Stansfield and Kyogo Furuhashi have failed to hit the heights expected of them, while Lyndon Dykes has been touted with moves to Ipswich Town and Charlton Athletic.
Therefore, a move for prolific Championship forward and current Leeds United man, Joel Piroe, could be on the cards, particularly when his game-time at Elland Road has been so limited following the Whites’ promotion back to the Premier League.
Meanwhile, Piroe himself has refused to rule out a move away from the Yorkshire outfit in the next few weeks, so it is a deal that could end up materialising in the near future.
With this in mind, FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit has commented on whether he would welcome Piroe to the West Midlands for the remainder of the season.

Speaking to Football League World, Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore has admitted Joel Piroe would be an excellent addition at Championship level, but has questioned whether his lack of game-time at Leeds United would prevent him from making an instant impact for Blues.
Jason told FLW: “I think every single Championship club should have Joel Piroe on their radar, if he’s available.
“Don’t get me wrong, if he came up as an option, then I’d be all over him, but my only concern is how sharp he is and is he going to come in and hit the ground running, because that’s what we need. We need someone to come in up top and start scoring goals.
“I’d be intrigued to see how fit he is, but if the option comes up to get him on loan for the rest of the season, I’d be all over it, bring him in, see what happens.
“A permanent deal, I would be 50/50 over it as it depends on what you want to pay, as if and when you do get promoted, he doesn’t play.
“Factors depend, but I guess if he’s available, then if I was Blues, go get him.”

If Joel Piroe was to move to St Andrew’s with Birmingham City, then it would comfortably go down as one of the best additions during the January transfer window.
At Championship level, Piroe is a certified marksman, guaranteeing goals and adding an extra layer of flair and quality in the final third.
His figures at both Leeds United and Swansea City speak for themselves, netting 73 times across four seasons, with his best goalscoring campaign coming in his debut term in South Wales when he scored 22 times.
Piroe would certainly be set up for success with the current options in the Blues attack too. The likes of Demarai Gray and Patrick Roberts possess so much pace going forward and have the presence of mind to offer consistent service to the forwards they play alongside.
It’s certainly a move Piroe should be tempted to make in order to get his career back on track and on an upwards trajectory, while playing in that Blues team would surely see him retain his tag of being one of the most potent forwards in the second-tier.
