The Canadian winger has become a swift favourite at St. Andrew's after his summer loan

Birmingham City's Canadian winger, Liam Millar, has now revealed who he was named after, with the answer stemming from an extremely topical discussion at this moment in time.

Millar was one of six recruits who moved to St. Andrew's @ Knighthead Park throughout the summer transfer window, having completed a loan switch from Hull City in the late hours of Deadline Day on September 1st.

Having watched the 1-1 draw against Southampton in B9 from the stands that particular night, the Toronto-born ace has already made a swift impression on Birmingham supporters because of his early performance levels, which included a starring role in the 2-1 victory against Derby County at Pride Park on September 12th.

The former Liverpool academy graduate is certainly well-known throughout the EFL sphere, having featured now for Blues on a temporary basis, whilst his time at the MKM Stadium also came after spells with Preston North End and Charlton Athletic.

After being a part of Canada's first FIFA World Cup involvement in 40 years as co-hosts with the United States and Mexico, there was bound to be plenty of focus on Millar's performances if he stayed in the Premier League as part of Sergej Jakirovic's 25-man squad, but given Blues' own transatlantic connections and ambitions through ownership group, Knighthead Capital Management, that is still bound to be the case.

Whilst the start to the EFL season has certainly been compelling, football-related matters almost took a backseat this week when it was confirmed that legendary Manchester band, Oasis, were set to announce their 2027 tour across Europe and North America after reuniting in 2025.

It has been well-documented for several years that the Gallagher brothers - Liam and Noel - are avid supporters of Manchester City, with the latter even spotted in the away end for Enzo Maresca's side's controversial win against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The band, of course, are famous right throughout the world, and in their first tour since 2009, even played gigs in Millar's home city at the Rogers Stadium, which opened in June 2025 in Toronto's North York district.

Birmingham certainly made the most of the tour announcement, interviewing several squad members at the club's EPIC training facility as to whether they are 'team Liam' or 'team Noel'.

In answer to the question, Millar revealed: "Well my parents named me after Liam, so I'm going to have to say (team) Liam."

Whilst not many will have been aware that Millar was, indeed, named after the 53-year-old songwriter, they may also not know that his father also has connections to the English game, despite never making a senior appearance.

Alan Millar was part of Charlton's academy and has since been part of many television and film series, but unsurprisingly, is now keeping close tabs on the progress of his son in the Championship, where he will hope to emulate his play-off success with the Tigers in the West Midlands at the end of this season.

So far, the 44-time international has proven why Chris Davies has been so keen on acquiring his signature in the past, with three assists provided in the last two games, as well as having also seen a first goal for Birmingham controversially ruled out for offside against Norwich City on September 9th.

Two of those assists were pinpoint crosses for both Carlos Vicente and Paik Seung-ho at Pride Park, which, in turn, saw him named as Player of the Match award at the end of the game.
