Leeds United are reportedly keen to send up-and-coming midfielder Mateusz Bogusz on loan to a Championship side next season.

According to Football Insider, Marcelo Bielsa is keen for Bogusz to be sent on loan to the English second tier in 2021/22.

So, which clubs should be keen or would be a good fit?

Naturally, a lot of people will point to Huddersfield Town where Carlos Corberan is head coach. Whilst that would be a decent fit, the Terriers do have a number of players of a similar ilk to Bogusz on the books, namely Scott High.

So, for me, I don’t actually think it’s as good a fit as it might seem.

Interestingly, I’d like to see Bogusz at Barnsley, providing they don’t win promotion through the play-offs.

I think that playing under Valerien Ismael would be great for the Polish youngster, who would learn so much about the high press and intensity Barnsley play with.

Barnsley’s style hardly mirrors Marcelo Bielsa’s, but aspects of it do and they are probably the aspects of the game Bogusz needs to learn in English football.

He needs to become more aggressive out of possession and demand the ball in tough circumstances. Ismael has managed to get that out of the bulk of his Barnsley squad in a fairly short space of time, so I can see him really unearthing Bogusz’s true potential.

Others will be interested, though, as this is a really exciting young player we are talking about.

Does Elland Road have a higher or lower capacity than these 18 grounds?

I wouldn’t be throwing Bogusz to one of the top teams right now in the Championship – he’s proven very little in his spell out in Spain’s second tier so if I was Leeds I’d be tempted to send him to one of the promoted League One teams or one of the lower-end outfits from this season.

One obvious team that stands out is Huddersfield. Not only location-wise does it make sense but also Carlos Corberan is head coach and he’s worked at Leeds before, so he will understand what Marcelo Bielsa would want out of Bogusz’s development.

Another option could be Hull City, who again are not that far from Leeds geographically and Grant McCann will be looking to bolster his midfield as his current squad has a few loanees in the engine room – Bogusz could be an upgrade on them all.

Let’s also throw Middlesbrough into the mix, who could be looking for a diminutive midfielder to help ease the load on Marcus Tavernier – Bogusz will probably not be short of options though.

I think Blackburn are one club that could be worth considering here.

Rovers have an excellent track record when it comes to developing Premier League youngsters while on loan in recent years – Harrison Reed, Tosin Adarabioyo, Harvey Elliott and Taylor Harwood-Bellis all spring to mind – so Bogusz could be another to flourish at Ewood Park, and these two clubs are already familiar with each other, following the deal for Barry Douglas done last summer.

With a number of midfielders out of contract at Blackburn this summer, there could also be the chance for a decent amount of game time there for Bogusz, and with manager Tony Mowbray trying to mould his side into one based around possession and a free-flowing game, it could suit the style of a player looking to break through at Leeds.

I also think Huddersfield are one that could be worth considering given the links Carlos Corberan has with Leeds which means he may be familiar with Bogusz, and could therefore help him to settle there.

But with Corberan under some scrutiny at the minute following the Terriers’ dismal recent form, which could cause even more problems for them next season, that is a move that certainly would not be without its risks for either party were it to ultimately happen.
