Blackburn boss optimistic after talks with owners to increase transfer budget | OneFootball

Blackburn Rovers manager Tony Mowbray revealed he has met with the club’s owners as he seeks more support in the transfer market.

Blackburn have made just one new signing so far this summer – Jayden Fevrier from Stockport County for £500,000, as well as making Moussa Baradji’s loan move permanent.

After finishing 20th in the Championship last season, they could be at serious risk of relegation without further reinforcements.

“I’m back just this morning, I was up at 4am, from Zurich,” Mowbray told talkSPORT. “I’ve been meeting the owners in Switzerland yesterday.

“Trying to appeal about needing a little bit of help, financial help, to try and put Blackburn back where we need to be, being more competitive in the Championship. And to give ourselves a chance. The play-offs go down to eighth this season and so, can we sneak in?

“We look at what Hull City did last year. From a 21st place finish only two years ago to now finding themselves in the Premier League.

“So it can be done. If you recruit well, coach well and have a team that will run through brick walls for you, you can achieve in the Championship. Even though it does look a really, really tough league this season.”

The Blackburn boss later clarified some details of his meeting with the Venky’s. He explained: “I was invited to go and meet them. I’m not the sort of guy who would stamp my feet and demand to go and see the owners and tell them we need loads more money.

“I told them I think we need a little bit of help. They’re a really hard-working, honest group of players that can make life difficult for every team in this league, as they’ve proven.

“I quoted to the owners that some teams who I would suggest that Rovers should be in and around them are spending £10 million on this player and £10 million on that player at the moment. I don’t go and demand and stamp my feet, it’s not my personality.”

Nevertheless, Mowbray came away from the meeting with optimism that the Venky’s will listen to his appeals.

He continued: “Without getting definitive numbers off the owners, they implied to me that they would look in and help.

“It’s very difficult if somebody’s already investing £20million a year to ask for more, for more, for more. It’s not an easy discussion so I don’t go and stamp my feet. I go and appeal and talk with humility. I hope they can understand that we just want a little bit of help.”
