Blackpool's Fletcher among most productive in top four tiers

Blackpool forward Ashley Fletcher is in blistering form — and only two players across the 92 can better his attacking output in all domestic competitions this season.

The former Manchester United academy graduate has scored six goals in his last five games, adding to his tally with a strike in last weekend’s 2-0 victory away at Wigan Athletic. He is currently joint-fifth in the League One scoring charts, with eight goals to his name.

However, when assist numbers are included — and the scope widened to encompass the Carabao Cup, FA Cup and EFL Trophy — Fletcher’s impact becomes even clearer. Across all competitions, he has now registered 13 goals and four assists.

Only two players can eclipse that combined return this season — and one comes as little surprise.

Manchester City striker Erling Haaland added two goals and an assist in a 3-0 win over West Ham last weekend, taking the Norwegian to 24 goal contributions in the Premier League this term.

The only other player ahead of Fletcher for end product is Aaron Drinan of Swindon Town, who has produced 17 goals and two assists across all competitions.

For Fletcher, it’s rare company — and Blackpool will hope their in-form forward can sustain his momentum. The Tangerines sit 22nd in the table but remain just three points off 14th-placed Wigan, keeping hopes of a climb alive.
