Boca are pushing to sign Colombian centre-back Jhohan Romaña from San Lorenzo and could use AFA’s newly introduced “Cláusula Simplificada de Finalización de Contrato” to navigate financial and political hurdles.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, Boca lodged an opening bid of three million dollars that San Lorenzo rejected for reasons beyond the pitch, including a reluctance to deal directly with Boca and debt-related transfer inhibitions that would see proceeds automatically retained.
Triggering the defender’s five million dollars release clause is seen by Boca as too steep if it must be paid upfront in a single instalment. Romaña is under contract with San Lorenzo until the end of the year.
The alternative route stems from an agreement signed on 26 June 2025 by the Asociación del Fútbol Argentino and Futbolistas Argentinos Agremiados. Its Article Four allows a player to negotiate an early termination with his club without activating the full clause at once.
If applied, the mechanism would permit financed payments, performance-related add-ons and Boca signing as sole obligor, while San Lorenzo could frame the exit as a mutually agreed rescission rather than a sale and better manage receipts given its inhibitions.
Romaña’s representative and Boca plan to take the proposal to San Lorenzo in the coming hours. Should the parties agree and file the papers with AFA and FAA, with taxes of around four per cent, Romaña could join Boca.
