On Tuesday 20, Boca Juniors ended their move for Marino Hinestroza, clearing the way for Vasco da Gama to push ahead, according to César Luis Merlo.

Merlo reported that Boca now view the transfer as off after silence from Atlético Nacional and the player.

The Argentine club had emailed on Thursday seeking final approval for Hinestroza to travel on Friday, but said no reply or authorisation arrived.

Attempts to reach the Colombian’s camp by phone on Monday were unsuccessful, with the explanation that they were in meetings, leading Boca to conclude the deal had shifted course.

With Boca out of the race and that chapter closed, Vasco can move to wrap up the final paperwork.

The 23-year-old Colombian winger would fulfil a direct request from head coach Fernando Diniz.
