The Ligue’s legal commission failed to broker a conciliation between Nice and Jeremie Boga and Terem Moffi during a Thursday morning hearing. The dispute follows alleged assaults, spitting and insults on 30 November as the team returned from Lorient after a 1-3 defeat.

According to L'Équipe, the session is a mandatory step before any contentious action. The next move could be at the Prud'hommes.

Nice were represented by their lawyer, legal director and new deputy vice-president delegate Maurice Cohen. The players were excused on psychological grounds and appeared via their counsel. The two cases were heard separately over about one and a half hours.

Boga is signed off until Sunday, potentially renewable depending on medical advice. Moffi’s sick leave runs until the end of January.

Their counsel requested termination of contracts running to 2027 plus compensation, arguing the club knew of the danger and committed serious failings that led to the incidents.

Nice rejected termination, denied any failings or responsibility and said it had taken necessary steps to protect its players. The club instead floated a settlement based on a transfer or a loan.

With no settlement, the players may turn to the labour tribunal or pursue other routes, a path their lawyers outlined, though such proceedings can be lengthy. Nice must also manage two of its highest-paid players, a constraint on winter market moves, as president Jean-Pierre Rivère and Cohen weigh options. The club said on Thursday it wanted to bring forward other solutions acceptable to all sides.
