Despite the widespread rumors, Lazio fans will be able to travel to Bologna to support their team on the opening matchday of the Serie A campaign.

Bologna Claimed Lazio Fans Can’t Do the Trip

This season, the organized Lazio supporters decided not to purchase season tickets, as they will boycott all of the club’s league fixtures as part of their ongoing protest against president Claudio Lotito. However, the supporters are determined to make up for the players by following them on the road in great numbers, as already demonstrated by the friendly fixtures in Ascoli and Frosinone.

But over the past 48 hours, reports claimed that Lazio fans from Rome and nearby regions will be banned from travelling to Bologna for the opening match of the season. The contest is set to take place at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara on Monday, August 24.

Police Rubbishes Ban Rumors

Nevertheless, a statement released by Bologna’s local police quashed the whole theory, insisting that Lazio fans are allowed to make the trip.

Il Messaggero explained the whole debacle, revealing that Bologna (the club) was behind the controversy by claiming that the away section will be closed and that the Biancocelesti fans from the Lazio region are prohibited from travelling to the Emilian city.

But when the police released an official note on Monday afternoon, the Rossoblu deleted that false passage from their previously-released statement. The newspaper describes the episode as an ‘ill-advised move on Bologna to stir controversy and try to block the entry of 2,500 Lazio supporters to the Dall’Ara.

Lazio Fans Exclusively Present on the Road

Luckily for Gennaro Gattuso and his men, they will be able to count on the support of their loyal fanbase in their first league match of the season. On the contrary, Lazio will play their first competitive match of the season at a virtually empty Stadio Olimpico when they host Mantova in the opening round of the Coppa Italia this Sunday.
