Chelsea Women’s boss Sonia Bompastor has confirmed the availability of a number of stars who were absent from training earlier today.
Lauren James, Lucy Bronze, Veerle Buurman, Sjoeke Nusken and Johanna Rytting Kaneryd all missed training ahead of the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal.
“They will all be available for the game tomorrow,” confirmed Bompastor. “As I mentioned before the first leg game, I think we have different processes and sometimes when we are playing every three days, some of the players are in different programmes.
“Some of them stay off it, some of them come later to do a different programme on the pitch. So yeah, that’s part of the process. So it’s normal for us not to have seen these players.”
However Chelsea will be forced to continue without key players Aggie Beever-Jones and Millie Bright. Bompastor said: “I think both are doing well in terms of recovery and in their rehab. We won’t see them before the international break, but hopefully both will be back after the international break.”
After losing 3-1 at the Emirates last week, Chelsea will hope to overturn the two-goal deficit at Stamford Bridge tomorrow night. Bompastor remains confident that her side can turn things around in the second leg.
She insisted: “I think that’s the beauty of football. Everything can happen and that’s probably why people enjoy so much watching football games. So we are confident because that’s our job, to be confident – players and staff.
“We know it will be a challenge and a battle. But if you analyse the performance we put in the first leg, I think there are a lot of belief. We can really play a good game tomorrow.
“And yeah, as we just mentioned, our job is to come into the game with confidence and belief. Because we have quality enough to turn things around.”
