Former Milan and Fiorentina midfielder Giacomo Bonaventura is reportedly heading to Riyadh to complete the formalities of a move to the Saudi Pro League, but it has not yet been decided which club he will join.

The 34-year-old is currently available as a free agent following the expiry of his contract with Fiorentina at the end of June. He had scored 20 goals from 126 Serie A appearances during a four-year spell in Tuscany, which came after six seasons in San Siro.

Though some Serie A sides such as Como, Genoa and Torino had been linked with a move for Bonaventura earlier in the window, he is now set for a new adventure in the Middle East, according to recent updates from TMW.

Why Bonaventura has not yet decided on his next club

Transfers to the SPL work slightly differently to most divisions in Europe.

As the league and all of its clubs are overseen by the country’s central government, new players must first reach an economic agreement with the league, before deciding which club to play for.

That means that Bonaventura’s next club has not yet been decided upon, as he has not yet reached a formal agreement on personal terms.
