Santos midfielder Gabriel Bontempo, 21, has been named in Brazil’s preliminary squad for upcoming friendlies with Australia and India. According to Globo.com, he features in Carlo Ancelotti’s long list for the FIFA window from late September into early October.

The Seleção aim to use the start of the World Cup cycle to assess fresh options, particularly younger players, with closer links to the youth set-up.

Bontempo has featured regularly for Santos since last year, and this season has 40 appearances, five goals and four assists.

Brazil play Australia twice, on 25 September at Queensland Country Bank Stadium in Townsville, then on 29 September at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane. Afterwards the squad will travel to India, where on three October Brazil face the hosts at Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata, the first senior meeting between the nations.
