Santos attacking midfielder Gabriel Bontempo has been called up by Brazil for the next international window, featuring friendlies against Australia and India.
According to Diario Do Peixe, Carlo Ancelotti named the number eight alongside 25 other players, including ex-Santos defender Jair.
Brazil face Australia twice, on 25 September at 07:00 Brasília time at Queensland Country Bank in Townsville, then on 29 September at 07:00 at Suncorpo in Brisbane. They then meet India on 3 October at 11:00 at Salt Lake in Calcutta.
These are billed as the first tests with an eye on the 2030 World Cup. Another FIFA window in November includes friendlies with Japan and Singapore. People linked to the staff and coaching team contacted Santos to learn more about the midfielder’s situation.
Bontempo has been one of Santos’ standouts this season and now wears the number eight shirt. He has five goals and four assists in 40 matches. He has attracted enquiries from the Premier League, Türkiye and other European leagues.
He made his senior debut last year and became a fixture under Cuca. He has since agreed a fourth contract renewal in two years and is tied to December 2030.
In 2025 he began in the Copinha, then stepped up for the Paulistão and did not return to the academy. For the first team he has eight goals and six assists in 77 official games.
Born in Uberaba, Minas Gerais, he is 21. A fan of Neymar and Coutinho, he progressed through local schools with coaches Leandro “Marmita”, Luizinho, Piu and Clebio, passed a trial in 2015 and has spent a decade with Santos.
