Borja Sainz in rare FC Porto hiatus but still has a say

Borja Sainz has not featured in FC Porto’s last three matches under Francesco Farioli, despite being at full fitness. It marks his lowest spell of the season.

According to O Jogo, he stayed on the bench against Tondela, Sporting and Estrela da Amadora. The omission is a selection call from Farioli, with Oskar Pietuszewski arriving and holding the starting berth as the coach manages the squad.

Until Tondela, he was Farioli’s ninth most used player on 2395 minutes. He had missed only three matches, Aves SAD through suspension, plus Arouca and Sporting in the cup after his mother’s death.

Between eight March, against Benfica, and the trip to Nottingham on 16 April, he featured in every game.

Recent performances have not convinced, yet that does not amount to a loss of confidence from the coaching staff. Alverca are next, a meeting that brings good memories. His last brace came against them.
