Borussia Dortmund team news

Borussia Dortmund have emerged from the international break relatively unscathed in terms of their playing squad. Manager Niko Kovač confirmed that “all the national team players have returned healthy, which is very important.”

However, defensive concerns remain with Niklas Süle sidelined by a persistent toe injury that has kept him out for three matches. Süle currently cannot wear any footwear and recovery remains slow, as Kovač noted: “I’m not a doctor and can only pass on what the medical staff tell me.

At the moment, he can’t get into any shoe, and it isn’t improving right now.” Additionally, Ramy Bensebaini is dealing with back problems and faces a late fitness check, though he was back in training ahead of this fixture.

The Black and Yellows have demonstrated resilience this season, losing only once in the league—a narrow 2-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in Der Klassiker.

VFB Stuttgart team news

Stuttgart face more significant injury challenges. Ermedin Demirović, the club’s leading goalscorer, remains absent with a fractured metatarsal suffered in early October, and is expected to miss further weeks.

Defenders Luca Jaquez and Ramon Hendriks are doubts, having recently returned to partial training after muscular problems. Jaquez suffered a groin injury and sat out Stuttgart’s recent fixtures, but head coach Sebastian Hoenеss indicated he may be a late call for Saturday’s clash. Justin Diehl and Yannik Keitel are also unavailable, compounding defensive options for the visitors.

Notably, Deniz Undav has recovered from his knee ligament injury and has impressed upon his return, scoring twice in the recent 3-2 victory over Augsburg and adding another goal in the 1-0 win versus Mainz.

Undav now has three goals in six appearances since returning to full fitness and has historically thrived against Dortmund with three goals in five career appearances against them.

Form

Borussia Dortmund

Despite a frustrating 1-1 draw against Hamburger SV immediately before the international break, Dortmund remain in third position with 21 points from 10 matches. Kovač’s side have secured impressive victories demonstrated genuine title credentials.

Their defensive record is exceptional, with only Bayern Munich conceding fewer goals than their seven strikes this season. Goalkeeper Gregor Kobel has already recorded six clean sheets this season

VFB Stuttgart

Stuttgart sit fourth on 21 points, level with Dortmund but occupying a lower position due to their superior goal difference. Despite missing their primary striker Demirović for substantial periods, Hoenеss’s side have maintained impressive form.

They secured a crucial 3-2 victory against Augsburg on November 9th, where Undav’s brace proved decisive, before bouncing back from a 3-1 defeat to RB Leipzig with clinical performances in European competition.

Predicted lineups

Borussia Dortmund: Kobel; Anton, Can, Schlotterbeck; Ryerson, Sabitzer, Nmecha, Svensson; Chukwuemeka, Beier; Guirassy.

VFB Stuttgart: Nubel; Assignon, Jeltsch, Zagadou, Mittelstadt; Karazor, Stiller; Bouanani, El Khannouss, Leweling; Undav.
