Borussia Mönchengladbach are set to target Hertha Berlin duo Linus Gechter (21) and Tjark Ernst (22) as they look to strengthen their squad in 2026.
As reported by Bild, Hertha want at least €5m for German U21 international defender Gechter, and a similar fee for Ernst, who has kept 11 clean sheets across all competitions this season.
However, Gladbach face competition from Ajax to sign Ernst. With nine clean sheets in 17 2. Bundesliga appearances this season, the 22-year-old has established himself as a leading goalkeeper in Germany’s second division. Ranked fifth for shots saved (59), Ernst has only conceded 16 goals in 17 games, facing an xGOT of 24.18.
Gechter meanwhile has considerable experience for a 21-year-old. With 74 appearances across all competitions already for Hertha, the central defender is an invaluable player for the Old Lady.
Signing Gechter and Ernst won’t come cheap for Borussia Mönchengladbach. Indispensable to Stefan Leitl, the duo are certain starters when fit and with contracts until 2027, Hertha are in no rush to sell.
Bild report that the duo are valued at more than €10m combined – a significant outlay for Gladbach.
